Dear people,

The live Stratego WC 2018 will be held in the Netherlands in a place called Naarden-vesting.

Thursday, August 23 ( WC Barrage )

Friday, August 24 ( WC Classic seniors round 1 through 5 )

Saturday, August 25 ( WC Classic seniors round 6 through 10 + WC juniors )

Sunday, August 26 ( WC teams + open tournament )

Barrage is played with 8 pieces on a regular 10x10 board. Pieces: Marshal, General, Miner, 2x Scout, Spy, Bomb, Flag.

WC classic is the individual tournament for either junior / senior.

WC teams, country teams (usually top 4 per country of the individual live WC) will take up against other country teams. A team must have a minimum of 3 per country. No "Rest of the world" teams will be formed.

Open tournament, a regular tournament for those who did not qualify for the WC country teams but can't get enough of the game Smile

It is official, the location of the 2018 World Championship Barrage Thursday 23 Aug 2018 is: Het Vestingmuseum (The Fortress Museum) in Naarden-Vesting.

From the website: "The Fortress museum lets you experience how the soldiers protected the surroundings of Amsterdam, from enemies from the far east. In the dark shelters of the Fortress, where the soldiers of earlier times had fought, slept and lived. The Fortress is a journey back in time, from the Golden Age to the first World War, from the Dutch war of independence to the time of Napoleon Bonaparte."

The Barrage event on the Thursday is completely separate from the main event. It has the nicest location though so even if you would not play there, if you are in Naarden I highly recommend to come and take a look.

You can participate separately in the main event (Friday and Saturday) and if you like also join the Naarden Open on Sunday (or play in the Country teams if your country has enough players). What country are you from?

The atmosphere will be unbelievable on the Thursday event. It will feel like 1815 and Emperor Napoleons troops still around somehow.

I am not sure if we announced this here yet, but there will be a city walk with a guide on Thursday 23 Aug at 20:00 hours to see the Fortress City of Naarden.

There are limited number of spots and the cost is Free for players and visitors to the World Championship.

If players or visitors of the World Championship like to attend, they should let one of the organizers know. A PM to Nortrom or me will do the job.

The article mentions players attending from Greece, Belgium, England, USA, Canada and Germany.

In addition to this we are expecting players from France, Switzerland and of course The Netherlands making this edition of the world championship probably the most international version ever.

The media exposure for the event is going up quickly at the moment:
